HOUSE BILL NO. 5253
A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
(MCL 168.1 to 168.992) by adding section 946.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 946. (1) The secretary of state shall not accept from an individual or entity, either directly or indirectly, a gift involving election-related equipment, including, but not limited to, a gift involving election-related equipment that is to be distributed by any means to a county, city, village, or township clerk or to any other local election official.
(2) A county, city, village, or township clerk, or any other local election official, shall not accept from an individual or entity, either directly or indirectly, a gift involving election-related equipment.
(3) As used in this section:
(a) "Election-related equipment" means any materials, machines, or products that may be used to facilitate any tasks related to an election including, but not limited to, tabulators, voting booths, and absent voter ballot drop boxes.
(b) "Gift involving election-related equipment" means any of the following:
(i) A gift of property or goods involving election-related equipment.
(ii) A gift of money or other consideration to be used for obtaining election-related equipment.
