A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled “Revised judicature act of 1961,” by amending sections 5741 and 5750 (MCL 600.5741 and 600.5750).

Rep. Rabhi moved to amend the bill as follows:
1. Amend page 2, line 20, after “reasonable.” by inserting “The jury or judge shall not add a fee under this subdivision if there are outstanding complaints, related to the lease or the leased premises, alleging a violation of any of the following:
(i) Section 39 of 1846 RS 66, MCL 554.139.
(ii) The truth in renting act, 1978 PA 454, MCL 554.631 to 554.641.
(iii) Section 130 of the housing law of Michigan, 1917 PA 167, MCL 125.530.
(iv) Section 1b of 1972 PA 348, MCL 554.601b.
(v) Section 2918.
(vi) Any breach of the lease as found by the jury or judge to excuse payment of rent under subdivision (a).”.
2. Amend page 3, line 22, after “reasonable.” by inserting “The damages must not include a fee for late payment of rent under this subsection if there are outstanding complaints, related to the lease or the leased premises, alleging a violation of any of the following:
(i) Section 39 of 1846 RS 66, MCL 554.139.
(ii) The truth in renting act, 1978 PA 454, MCL 554.631 to 554.641.
(iii) Section 130 of the housing law of Michigan, 1917 PA 167, MCL 125.530.
(iv) Section 1b of 1972 PA 348, MCL 554.601b.
(v) Section 2918.
(vi) Any breach of the lease as found by the trier of fact to excuse payment of rent under section 5741(1)(a).”.
Rep. Young moved to amend the bill as follows:
1. Amend page 2, line 18, after the first “of” by striking out “the greater of”.
2. Amend page 2, line 18, after “$50.00” by striking out the balance of the subdivision and inserting a period.
3. Amend page 3, line 20, after the first “of” by striking out “the greater of”.
4. Amend page 3, line 20, after “$50.00” by striking out the balance of subsection and inserting a period.
Rep. Cavanagh moved to amend the bill as follows:
1. Amend page 2, line 20, after “reasonable.” by inserting “The judge may reduce or abate a fee added under this subdivision if the judge determines that the fee is excessive or calculated in a manner that is excessive or that it would impose financial hardship on the defendant.”.
2. Amend page 3, line 22, after “reasonable.” by inserting “The judge may reduce or abate a fee added under this subsection if the judge determines that the fee is excessive or calculated in a manner that is excessive or that it would impose financial hardship on the defendant.”.

A resolution to declare March 17, 2022, as Irish-American Day in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, On March 17th, during the annual celebration of the Feast of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Irish Americans join with men, women, and children of all other ethnic origins who, for one day, become Irish and celebrate Patrick and love of Ireland; and
Whereas, On Saint Patrick’s Day, all who wear the green live for a day in the spirit of Saints Patrick, Bridget, and Columcille whose 1500th anniversary was in the last year; and
Whereas, Irish immigrants to the United
States helped form the cultural foundation of the nation and those of Irish
lineage today proudly sing support for Ireland; and
Whereas, We celebrate the establishment of the American Irish State Legislators Caucus with its aim of fostering and strengthening the longstanding relationship that exists between the United States of America and Ireland to the mutual benefit of both countries with leadership in all 50 states; and
Whereas, The songs of Ireland are the tragic songs of love and the joyous songs of battle: the nostalgic reveries of the sorrows and the glories that are the Emerald Isle; and the lamentations of life’s myriad travails and the odes to joy and the life eternal; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare March 17, 2022, as Irish-American Day in the state of Michigan. We commemorate the celebration of the Feast of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
