Rep. Julie Alexander, from the 64th District, offered the following invocation:
“Heavenly father, thank You for the men and women who serve our country in leadership roles and for their families. Please provide our leaders with reminders each day of why they decided to dedicate their lives to public service, and use that commitment to encourage them. Give them peace when their work takes them away from their families. We also pray specifically for the wives, husbands, and children of our leaders. We ask that You draw near to them and give them the wisdom on how to best support one another while their loved one is away working.
Father, we are so grateful to be living in a country where democracy plays a part in making sure the needs and desires of the nation’s citizens are heard and met. As we, leaders for our great state of Michigan, work together to find solutions to difficult problems, we ask that You guide us while reminding us to speak respectfully and with humility to one another. Help us show godly love to those we interact with and be an advocate for our constituents and those we serve.
I pray that You might give Your people the right kind of patriotism. Give us the kind that loves our country, but can still see its faults. Give us the desire not to think our country perfect, but to work to make it better. Let us look to You to understand what is true and right. And let us work for those principles. But let us not work as those who are hostile, but as those who are helping something we love. So that we might make this country a better place to live for all the people in it.
The greatest thing I can do for my country, Lord, is to honor You. If I hold You in the highest regard, I will do my civic duty with pleasure. Let me do service to my country and to others with a genuine willingness. Guide me to do those things that will make a difference for You.”

Substitute for House Resolution No. 186.
A resolution to call on the state of Michigan to provide funding and act quickly to replace lead service lines that have contaminated drinking water sources in the city of Hamtramck.
Whereas, A reliable system that delivers safe, quality drinking water is crucial to a community’s vitality and its residents’ health and well-being; and
Whereas, Exposure to lead can cause serious harm to the health of children and adults. Children are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning and can experience damage to the brain and nervous system, slowed growth and development, and other significant harm to their health, including long-term impacts; and
Whereas, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 90th percentile value lead action level in drinking water is 15 parts per billion (ppb); and
Whereas, An October 15, 2021, letter from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to Hamtramck about lead and copper monitoring indicates that the community water supply’s 90th percentile value exceeded the 15 ppb lead action level during testing from June 1 to September 30, 2021. The 90th percentile value for lead was 17 ppb, with sample results reaching as high as 36 ppb. Among the sources of the lead contamination, the letter notes that the city’s service lines may contain lead; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we call on the state of Michigan to provide funding and act quickly to replace lead service lines that have contaminated drinking water sources in the city of Hamtramck; and be it further
