Heavenly Father, we come before You this morning, and we thank You for Your abundant blessings in our lives and upon this great state of Michigan. You have not only created all things, but in You all things hold together. Not only do You promise to not withhold all good things from Your children, but You continue to lavish Your blessing upon us in so many tangible ways beyond number, and we are grateful beyond words.
Father, as we meet this morning, we admit how wanting we are, how needy we are, and how much we need Your grace, Your compassion, and Your wisdom. The challenges these dear men and women face in this Chamber, day-in and day-out, are daunting and they’re overwhelming. So many people are depending on them to carry out their duties with diligence, with honor, and with integrity. Who is sufficient for such a task? Yet, You have providentially placed each one of these people in their prospective positions. You have them here for Your good and glorious purposes. I pray that You give each one an abundance of wisdom and discernment today. Help them, Father, to serve the greater good and to protect them from having a self-serving agenda. Thank You for each one here and their willingness to use their lives, their gifts, their talents, and their abilities to serve the people of this great state. Protect them and protect their families. Help each one of them here this morning to function as people of integrity, people who love, and people who work hard for something bigger and greater than they are. O God, give them the strength that they so desperately need today.
And we ask all of this in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
The President pro tempore, Senator Schuitmaker, led the members of the Senate in recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.
