A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1531j.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1531j. (1) In addition to other types of teaching
certificate or interim teaching certificate under this act, the
superintendent of public instruction may grant a temporary teaching
certificate to an individual who meets all of the following:
(a) He or she is married to a member of the armed forces of
the United States who is on active duty.
(b) He or she holds a current teaching certificate or license
issued by an equivalent credentialing department, board, or
authority, as determined by the superintendent of public
instruction, in another state of the United States, the District of
Columbia, Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, another
territory or protectorate of the United States, or a foreign
country.
(c) He or she provides proof acceptable to the superintendent
of public instruction that his or her spouse is assigned to a duty
station in this state and that he or she is also assigned to a duty
station in this state under his or her spouse's official active
duty military orders.
(2) The superintendent of public instruction shall deny a
temporary teaching certificate to an individual described in
subsection (1) for fraud, material misrepresentation, or
concealment in the person's application for a temporary teaching
certificate or for a conviction for which an individual's teaching
certificate may be revoked under section 1535a.
(3) A temporary teaching certificate issued under subsection
(1) is valid for 1 year and may be renewed for additional 1-year
terms if the superintendent of public instruction determines the
individual holding the temporary teaching certificate continues to
meet the requirements of subsection (1). The superintendent of
public instruction may revoke a temporary teaching certificate for
a conviction for which an individual's teaching certificate may be
revoked under section 1535a.
