House Bill 4570 (as reported without amendment)

Sponsor:  Representative Kevin Cotter

House Committee:  Judiciary

Senate Committee:  Judiciary

CONTENT

The bill would amend the Revised Judicature Act to require the chief judge of a court to which a person was returned as a juror to postpone the person's term of service, upon request, until the end of the academic year if the person were a full-time student enrolled in and attending a college, community college, university, graduate or professional school, vocational school, or any other accredited educational institution.  The person would have to provide satisfactory proof that the term of service would likely interfere with his or her class schedule.

(A person is "returned" as a juror if he or she has been served with a written notice summoning him or her to appear in court for jury service.)
