A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4754 AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE ON 6-5-13
The bill would allow military experience to be taken into account when determining who can take the examination for a contractor's license under the Forbes Mechanical Contractors Act. That act licenses contractors engaged in heating and cooling, refrigeration, fire suppression, and other related specialties.
The bill requires that an applicant for examination has a minimum of three years' experience (or the equivalent) acceptable to the regulators. Under the bill, term "experience" would include experience acquired, while serving as an active duty member of the armed forces, by a veteran who was not dishonorably discharged from military service.
Such an individual would have to submit with an application for licensure an affidavit or letter signed by a commanding officer, supervisor, or military superior with direct knowledge of the applicant's service that described the applicant's experience as a contractor in one or more of the classifications described in the act.
The bill would take effect 90 days after it was enacted into law.
