Senate Bill 329 (as introduced 3-4-09)
Sponsor: Senator Dennis Olshove
Committee: Energy Policy and Public Utilities

Date Completed: 3-11-09

CONTENT
The bill would amend Public Act 3 of 1939, the Public Service Commission law, to prohibit an electric or natural gas provider from charging a customer any late fees, fines, or payments related to a shutoff or resumption of service if the provider did not provide the notice required by Section 9d. (Senate Bills 320 and 330 each propose to create Section 9d, which would require a provider to notify a customer before shutting off natural gas or electric service.)

Proposed MCL 460.9f Legislative Analyst: Julie Cassidy

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have no fiscal impact on State government. Local governments with municipally owned utilities would possibly see reductions in fee revenue if they came under PSC regulation pursuant to the bill.
