The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 329.
A resolution for the Honorable Barb Vander Veen.
Whereas, As she completes her service with the House of Representatives, it is most fitting to tip our hat in praise and thankfulness to Barb Vander Veen for her many contributions to this legislative body and her dedication to the people in the Eighty-ninth District and the entire state; and Whereas, Barb Vander Veen has always had a strong commitment to serve humankind, being a proud member of the nursing profession as a registered nurse and being a certified counselor. Her altruism and service are exemplified in her involvement in the Resurrection Life Church in Grand Haven and her volunteerism for the American Red Cross, Allendale Public Schools, and numerous community groups. She brought her expertise and sense of unselfishness to the Capitol with her election in 2000; and
Whereas, Representative Vander Veen served as the chair of the Senior Health, Security, and Retirement Committee and as a member of the Education, Family and Children Services, and Health Policy Committees. She authored many new health-related public acts, including legislation that created a new Cancer Drug Donation Program for Michigan. Her colleagues demonstrated their high regard for her leadership when they elected her as the associate speaker pro tempore of the Ninety-second Legislature. For six years, Representative Vander Veen has served her district, this legislative body, and the entire state with respect, dignity, and dedication; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of tribute in commendation and thankfulness to Barb Vander Veen for her dedicated service and her many contributions to this legislative body and to our entire state; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Representative Vander Veen as evidence of our sincere appreciation of her service and our best wishes for her next endeavors.
