A bill to amend 1972 PA 230, entitled
"Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act,"
(MCL 125.1501 to 125.1531) by adding section 4d.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 4d. (1) Beginning 1 year after the effective date of the
rules promulgated under subsection (2), the builder of a new
residential building or structure shall install 1 or more carbon
monoxide detectors in that building or structure, as provided in
those rules.
(2) The director shall promulgate rules that establish
standards and requirements for the installation of carbon monoxide
detectors in a new residential building or structure. The rules
shall provide that at least 1 carbon monoxide detector be installed
in each dwelling unit of a single family dwelling, 1- or 2-family
detached dwelling, or multiple family dwelling.
(3) Beginning the code cycle after the effective date of the
rules promulgated under subsection (2), the director shall include
in the code provisions requiring the installation of carbon
monoxide detectors. Under such circumstances, the provisions in the
code shall supersede this section.
