MINIMUM ETHANOL STANDARD S.B. 1341: COMMITTEE SUMMARY

Senate Bill 1341 (as introduced 6-28-06)
Sponsor: Senator Michael Switalski
Committee: Technology and Energy

Date Completed: 9-13-06

CONTENT
The bill would amend the Motor Fuels Quality Act to provide that, beginning December 31, 2007, standards for gasoline sold or offered for sale in the State would have to include a requirement that gasoline sold in the State include at least 2% ethanol. The Act requires the Director of the Department of Agriculture or his or her authorized representative to establish standards to ensure the purity and quality of gasoline sold or offered for sale in the State. The standards must meet the latest gasoline standards established by Federal law and by the American Society for Testing and Materials. The established standards must be by administrative rules.

FISCAL IMPACT
The bill's fiscal impact on the State cannot be determined, but likely would be negligible. Any impact would be the result of increased motor fuel inspections by the Department of Agriculture due to increased consumer complaints.
