Sponsor:  Rep. Mary Waters

Committee:  Local Government and Urban Policy

Complete to 5-31-05

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4827 AS INTRODUCED 5-24-05

The bill would add a new section to the Fire Prevention Code to require that each fire hydrant be inspected at least annually by the entity having jurisdiction over the waterworks system conveying water to the hydrant.

 MCL 29.21

FISCAL IMPACT:

The cost to local units of government will increase by an indeterminate amount. Reliable data is not available on the number of fire hydrants in each local unit of government, nor is the cost per inspection. Further, the cost of inspection is expected to vary greater throughout Michigan due to variations in prevailing wage rates, and whether a third party inspection service is used.
