A SUMMARY OF SENATE BILL 102 AS REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE 12-6-06

The bill would add a new section to the Corrections Code to rename the Ionia Maximum Correctional Facility as the Jack Welborn Correctional Facility.  The bill would take effect January 1, 2007.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The bill would increase state costs.  As of February 2005, the Department of Corrections estimated that implementing the bill would cost approximately $67,500.  These costs would include those of changing signs, replacing prisoner and staff identification, replacing stationery and forms, and changing references in various departmental documents.  There could be additional costs of notifying vendors and courts, revising Michigan Administrative Information Network (MAIN) profiles, and updating websites and databases.
