A bill to amend 1980 PA 299, entitled "Occupational code," by amending section 806 (MCL 339.806), as amended by 1995 PA 217. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 806. (1) A promoter, boxing club, physician, referee, 2 judge, matchmaker, timekeeper, announcer, professional boxer, or 3 a manager, or second of those persons shall obtain a license from 4 the department before participating either directly or indirectly 5 in a boxing contest. 6 (2) A person shall not profit directly or indirectly from a 7 boxing contest or participate directly or indirectly in the con- 8 test or in the receipts from a contest unless that contest is 9 licensed by the department in advance under the classifications 10 designated in this article. 06677'02 * LBO 2 1 (3) Each application for a license shall be in writing, 2 shall be verified by the applicant, and shall set forth those 3 facts requested by and conform to the rules promulgated by the 4 department, jointly with the board. 5 (4) AN APPLICANT FOR A LICENSE AS A PROFESSIONAL BOXER SHALL 6 BE OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER. THE DEPARTMENT MAY ISSUE A LICENSE 7 TO AN APPLICANT IT DETERMINES NOT TO BE OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER 8 IF THE APPLICANT DEMONSTRATES TO THE BOARD THAT HIS OR HER BACK- 9 GROUND DOES NOT DEMONSTRATE A PROPENSITY TO VIOLATE THE LAW OR 10 ANY RULES OF CONDUCT THAT WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO, OR REFLECT 11 NEGATIVELY UPON, THE SPORT OF BOXING. 12 (5) (4) The department shall issue a passport with each 13 professional boxer's license. 14 (6) (5) Each applicant for a license as a promoter, refer- 15 ee, or judge shall be of good moral character. 06677'02 * Final page.
