A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 744 (MCL 168.744), as amended by 1995 PA 261. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 744. (1) An election inspector or any other person in 2 the polling room or in a compartment connected to the polling 3 room or within 100 50 feet from any AN entrance to the build- 4 ing in which the polling place is located shall not persuade or 5 endeavor to persuade a person to vote for or against any A par- 6 ticular candidate or party ticket, or for or against any A 7 ballot question that is being voted on at the election. A person 8 shall not place or distribute stickers, other than stickers 9 provided by the election officials pursuant to law AS PROVIDED 10 BY THIS ACT, in the polling room or in a compartment connected to 03241'01 CAS 2 1 the polling room or within 100 50 feet from any AN entrance 2 to the building in which the polling place is located. 3 (2) A person shall not solicit donations, gifts, contribu- 4 tions, purchase of tickets, or similar demands, or request or 5 obtain signatures on petitions in the polling room or in a com- 6 partment connected to the polling room or within 100 50 feet 7 from any AN entrance to the building in which the polling place 8 is located. 9 (3) On election day, a person shall not post, display, or 10 distribute in a polling place, in any A hallway used by voters 11 to enter or exit a polling place, or within 100 50 feet of an 12 entrance to a building in which a polling place is located any 13 material that directly or indirectly makes reference to an elec- 14 tion, a candidate, or a ballot question. This subsection does 15 not apply to official material that is required by law to be 16 posted, displayed, or distributed in a polling place on election 17 day. 18 (4) A person who violates this section is guilty of a 19 misdemeanor. 03241'01 Final page.
