A bill to amend the Initiated Law of 1996, entitled "Michigan gaming control and revenue act," (MCL 432.201 to 432.226) by adding section 6d. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 SEC. 6D. (1) A LICENSE SHALL NOT BE ISSUED OR RENEWED FOR A 2 CASINO IF THE LAND ON WHICH THE CASINO OR CASINO ENTERPRISE IS 3 PROPOSED TO BE LOCATED OR IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF DETROIT 4 IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY THE RENAISSANCE CENTER, EAST JEFFERSON 5 AVENUE, EAST GRAND BOULEVARD, THE DOUGLAS MACARTHUR BRIDGE, AND 6 THE DETROIT RIVER. 7 (2) THIS SECTION DOES NOT TAKE EFFECT UNLESS APPROVED BY A 8 MAJORITY OF THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF DETROIT VOTING COLLEC- 9 TIVELY ON THE QUESTION. THE QUESTION OF ADOPTION OF THIS SECTION 10 SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF DETROIT AT THE 11 NEXT REGULAR ELECTION TO BE HELD NOT LESS THAN 60 DAYS AFTER THE 00945'01 TLG 2 1 EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE AMENDATORY ACT THAT ADDED THIS SECTION OR 2 AT A SPECIAL ELECTION CALLED FOR THAT PURPOSE BY THE DETROIT CITY 3 COUNCIL. THE QUESTION SHALL BE SUBMITTED IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE 4 FOLLOWING FORM: 5 SHALL 2001 LOCAL ACT _____, ENTITLED "AN ACT TO AMEND THE 6 INITIATED LAW OF 1996, ENTITLED 'MICHIGAN GAMING CONTROL AND REV- 7 ENUE ACT,' (MCL 432.201 TO 432.226) BY ADDING SECTION 6D," WHICH 8 PROHIBITS LICENSURE FOR A CASINO PROPOSED TO BE LOCATED OR 9 LOCATED ON LAND WITHIN THE CITY OF DETROIT IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY 10 THE RENAISSANCE CENTER, EAST JEFFERSON AVENUE, EAST GRAND BOULE- 11 VARD, THE DOUGLAS MACARTHUR BRIDGE, AND THE DETROIT RIVER, AND 12 PROVIDES A REFERENDUM, BE ADOPTED? 13 YES ( ) 14 NO ( ) 15 (3) THE COUNTY BOARD OF CANVASSERS FOR WAYNE COUNTY SHALL 16 CANVASS THE RESULT OF THE VOTE. 17 (4) IF A MAJORITY OF THE ELECTORS VOTING ON THE QUESTION, AS 18 DETERMINED BY THE CANVASS OF VOTES CAST, VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE 19 ADOPTION OF THIS AMENDATORY ACT, IT SHALL BECOME EFFECTIVE 10 20 DAYS FOLLOWING THE CERTIFICATION OF THE ELECTION RESULTS. 00945'01 Final page.
