CONTENT


The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require the maximum speed limit on all nonpaved roads without a designated limit to be 45 miles per hour (mph). The bill would refer to nonpaved roads (or portions of roads) consisting of crushed stone, shale, slag, sand, gravel, or other aggregate.


Currently, the default speed limit on highways is 55 mph and freeways 65 mph. On certain portions of freeway, the speed limit is 70 mph. There is no designated speed limit for nonpaved roads.

FISCAL IMPACT


The bill would have an indeterminate impact regarding increased safety on nonpaved roads. Increased fine revenues from violations of speeds between 45 and 55 mph are indeterminate.
