A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6238 AS INTRODUCED 7-2-02

The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require that, upon new construction or resurfacing of existing handicapped van accessible parking spaces required by law or rule, parking spaces, curb cuts, and access aisles would have to conform to specifications for accessible and usable buildings and facilities prescribed in the American National Standard 1998, ICC/ANSI A117.1. Further, the area between each van accessible handicapped parking space would have to be painted with blue diagonal stripes that are 4 inches wide and 24 inches center to center.
