A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5815 AS INTRODUCED 3-19-02

Under the Michigan Liquor Control Code, a minor is prohibited from attempting to purchase, consuming or attempting to consume, or possessing or attempting to possess alcoholic liquor. One exception allows a minor to consume alcoholic liquor if he or she is enrolled in a course offered by a postsecondary educational institution, and the consumption of alcohol is in an academic building of the institution, under the supervision of a faculty member, and if the purpose of the consumption is solely educational and is a requirement of the course. House Bill 5815 would amend the code to eliminate this exception.
