A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4679 AS INTRODUCED 5-1-01
House Bill 4679 would amend the Revised School Code to require the legislature, beginning in the 2001-2002 fiscal year, to appropriate additional funds for teacher professional development related to the assessments used for state endorsement.
Under the bill, the funds would to be used to help teachers improve the ways they teach students in the locally adopted core curriculum, based on Michigan content standards; and, to learn about the assessments used for state endorsement and how to provide students with the skills and knowledge to achieve endorsement.
Currently, professional development funds can be used to help teachers increase their understanding of the use of data and assessment instruments and how they can improve teaching and learning for all students. The bill would include as a goal the identification of students who need additional assistance, and would specifically include MEAP tests and the state endorsement assessments among the assessment instruments.
