A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4424 AS INTRODUCED 3-7-01
House Bill 4424 would amend the Revised School Code to require that the Department of Education develop and maintain a statewide public school building infrastructure database. The database would be maintained to assist the department as it provides safe and adequate schools.
Specifically, the bill would required that for each public school building in the state that is used for public instruction, the infrastructure database would include at least all of the following information:
-the year of construction;
-the year of construction of any addition to the school building that increased classrooms or other instructional capacity;
-the grade levels served by the school building; and
-the number of pupils enrolled in the school building in the most recent school year for which the information was available.
Under the bill, the department would be required to update the database annually, to make the information available to any person upon request, and to provide Internet access to the information. To those ends, the board of a school district or of a public school academy would be required to provide information to the department as necessary for the development and maintenance of the infrastructure database, and in the manner prescribed by the department.
