SENATE BILL NO. 512

A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled
"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"
by amending sections 43502 and 43537 (MCL 324.43502 and
324.43537), as amended by 1996 PA 585.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 43502. (1) "Amphibian" means any frog, toad, salaman-
2 der, or any other member of the class amphibia.
3 (2) "Aquatic species" means any fish, reptile, amphibian,
4 mollusk, aquatic insect, or crustacea or part thereof.
5 (3) "Bow" means a device for propelling an arrow from a
6 string drawn, held, and released by hand where the force used to
7 hold the string in the drawn position is provided by the archer's
8 muscles.
9 (4) "Crossbow" means a weapon consisting of a bow mounted
10 transversely on a stock or frame and designed to fire an arrow,

1 bolt, or quarrel by the release of a bow string that is
2 controlled by a mechanical or electric trigger and has a working
3 safety and a draw weight of 100 pounds or more.
4 (5) "Crustacea" means any freshwater crayfish, shrimp, or
5 prawn of the order decapoda.
6 (6) "DISABILITY" MEANS THAT TERM AS DEFINED IN
7 SECTION 40102.
8 Sec. 43537. (1) A resident who is declared legally blind is
9 eligible to purchase a senior restricted or senior all-species
10 fishing license. The department may demand proof of blindness.
11 The licensee, when fishing, shall possess proof of blindness and
12 shall furnish the proof upon the request of a peace officer.
13 (2) A resident who has been determined by the United
States
14 department of veterans affairs to be permanently and totally
dis-
15 abled and entitled to veteran benefits at the 100% rate, for
a
16 disability other than blindness , is eligible to
purchase any
17 senior hunting license as described in section 43535 or any
18 senior fishing license described in section 43536, or both. The
19 department may demand proof of eligibility under this
20 subsection. The licensee, when hunting or taking aquatic spe-
21 cies, shall possess proof of his or her eligibility under this
22 subsection and shall furnish the proof upon the request of a
23 peace officer.
24 (3) The department shall process licenses issued under this
25 section in the same manner as licenses issued to senior citizens
26 for purposes of receiving appropriations from the legislature
27 under section 43546.
