A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled "The Michigan penal code," by amending section 217b (MCL 750.217b), as added by 1997 PA 159. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 217b. (1) An individual who is not employed by THIS 2 STATE, A LOCAL UNIT OF GOVERNMENT, OR a public utility shall not 3 inform another individual or represent to another individual by 4 uniform, identification, or any other means that he or she is 5 employed bythatTHIS STATE, A LOCAL UNIT OF GOVERNMENT, OR A 6 public utility with intent to do 1 or more of the following: 7 (a) Gain or attempt to gain entry to a residence, building, 8 structure, facility, or other property. 9 (b) Remain or attempt to remain in or upon a residence, 10 building, structure, facility, or other property. 05944'00 DRM 2 1 (c) Commit or attempt to commit a crime. 2 (2) An individual who violates subsection (1) is guilty of a 3 felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 2 years or a 4 fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both. 5 (3) As used in this section, "public utility" means a util- 6 ity that provides steam, gas, heat, electricity, water, cable 7 television, telecommunications services, or pipeline services, 8 whether privately, municipally, or cooperatively owned. 05944'00 Final page.
