A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5357 AS INTRODUCED 2-15-00

The Freedom of Information Act generally requires that governmental information be available to the public, with a list of exemptions. The bill would add to the current list of information exempted from disclosure as a public record under the act, county health department public records whose release would disclose any of the following information about a county public health department employee: (a) his or her personal address or telephone number; (b) the name, address, or telephone numbers of his or her family members, relatives, children, or parents; or (c) personal information about his or her family members or information regarding his or her marital status. However, this information would be exempted from disclosure only if the public interest in disclosure outweighed the public interest in nondisclosure in the particular instance.
