A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4920 AS INTRODUCED 9-30-99


The bill would amend the General Property Tax Act to provide an exception for silos from the general provision that property be assessed at 50 percent of true cash value. Under the bill, a silo used in agricultural operations would be assessed at salvage value or insured value, whichever was greater, and a silo not used in agricultural operations would be exempt from taxes and would have to be removed from the tax roll.
