A bill to prohibit the use of the name of a state agency or a name similar to the name of a state agency without fair compen- sation; and to provide penalties. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 1. As used in this act: 2 (a) "Person" means an individual, partnership, corporation, 3 association, governmental entity, or other legal entity. 4 (b) "State agency" means a department, board, commission, 5 office, agency, authority, or other unit of state government. 6 Sec. 2. (1) A person, society, association, or corporation 7 shall not assume, adopt, or use the name of a state agency or a 8 name that so nearly resembles the name of a state agency as to be 9 an imitation of that name without fair compensation. 10 (2) Subsection (1) does not apply if a state agency gives 11 permission to use its name without fair compensation. 06533'98 LTB
