HOUSE BILL No. 5777 April 23, 1998, Introduced by Reps. Stallworth, Kilpatrick, Hale and Thomas and referred to the Committee on Appropriations. A bill to amend 1909 PA 283, entitled "An act to revise, consolidate, and add to the laws relating to the establishment, opening, discontinuing, vacating, closing, altering, improvement, maintenance, and use of the public high- ways and private roads; the condemnation of property and gravel therefor; the building, repairing and preservation of bridges; maintaining public access to waterways under certain conditions; setting and protecting shade trees, drainage, and cutting weeds and brush within this state; and providing for the election or appointment and defining the powers, duties, and compensation of state, county, township, and district highway officials," (MCL 220.1 to 239.6) by adding section 20c to chapter IV. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 CHAPTER IV 2 SEC. 20C. (1) NOTWITHSTANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THIS 3 ACT, THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF ANY COUNTY WITH A POPULATION 4 OF 700,000 OR MORE BY PROPER RESOLUTION MAY SUBMIT TO THE ELEC- 5 TORATE OF THE COUNTY AT ANY GENERAL OR SPECIAL ELECTION THE 01106'97 TJS 2 1 QUESTION OF ESTABLISHING TOLL ROAD FACILITIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF 2 COLLECTING TOLLS ON THOSE HIGHWAYS DESIGNATED IN THE REFERENDUM. 3 (2) THE REVENUES COLLECTED FROM TOLL ROAD FACILITIES SHALL 4 BE EXPENDED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY ROAD COMMISSIONERS EXCLUSIVELY 5 FOR THE ADMINISTRATION AND OPERATION OF THE TOLL COLLECTION 6 SYSTEM AND FOR THE REPAIR, RESURFACING, AND MAINTENANCE OF THE 7 HIGHWAYS FROM WHICH THE TOLLS WERE COLLECTED. 8 (3) THIS SECTION DOES NOT AFFECT THE AMOUNT OF FUNDS A 9 COUNTY MAY RECEIVE UNDER 1951 PA 51, MCL 247.651 TO 247.675. 01106'97 Final page.
