The bill would amend the Youth Employment Standards Act to allow a minor who was at least 11 and less than 14 years of age to work as a youth athletic program referee or umpire as long as an adult representing the athletic program was on the premises where the athletic program event was occurring. The bill also would allow a minor 11 years of age or older to work as a bridge caddy at any event sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League or other National Bridge League Association, and would permit a minor 13 years of age or older to set traps for formal or informal trap, skeet and sporting clays shooting events.
The Act generally prohibits the employment of a minor 14 years of age or younger except for minors 11 years of age or older who work as golf caddies, or minors 13 years of age or older who work in certain farming operations.
