A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5837 AS INTRODUCED 5-12-98

House Bill 5837 would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to require that driver licenses issued by the secretary of state contain on the back of the license the Michigan pledge of allegiance. The Michigan pledge of allegiance to the state flag, written by Harold G. Coburn and adopted in Public Act 165 of 1972 (MCL 2.29), is as follows: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of Michigan, and to the state for which it stands, 2 beautiful peninsulas united by a bridge of steel, where equal opportunity and justice to all is our ideal."
