A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5777 AS INTRODUCED 4-23-98

House Bill 5777 would amend the county road law chapter of the general highway law, Public Act 283 of 1909, to allow the board of commissioners of any county with a population of 700,000 or more to submit to the voters the question of establishing toll road facilities to collect tolls on highways designated in the referendum. The bill would require that all toll revenues collected be expended by the board of county road commissioners exclusively for the administration and operation of the toll collection system, and for the repair, resurfacing, and maintenance of the highways from which the tolls were collected. The bill also specifies that this section would not affect the amount of funds a county received from the state under the Michigan Transportation Fund act.
