House Resolution No. 306.
A resolution honoring Dr. John Hansen upon the occasion of his retirement as Superintendent of Dexter Community Schools.
Whereas, It is with deep appreciation of the diversity of talents that must come together for educational excellence to be possible that we honor Dr. John Hansen upon the occasion of his retirement. As Dr. Hansen brings to a close his service as superintendent, we add our voice of thanks to those of the teachers, students, and parents throughout Dexter Community Schools; and
Whereas, As anyone who has spent much time around the process of education can attest, there are fewer endeavors more complex than education. Dr. Hansen has been deeply involved in helping young people become motivated and productive students through his years as principal of Dexter High School, as counselor for Adams Junior High School, as teacher at Brighton Middle School, and as an adjunct professor at Eastern Michigan University. Each of these roles, in turn, serves to complement the work started at home by parents and family; and
Whereas, In his work as superintendent over the past 14 years, Dr. John Hansen has been part of this challenging task. With his heartfelt concern for young people and the realization of the importance of learning in our swiftly changing world, Dr. Hansen has helped countless students and strengthened our state and its future; now, therefore, beit
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we thank Dr. Hansen for his commitment to the young people of Dexter Community Schools as superintendent. May his retirement be filled with health and happiness; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Dr. John Hansen as a token of our esteem for his fine work.

House Resolution No. 307.
A resolution to request the Michigan Jobs Commission to give prior notification to the legislature regarding changes to the operations of Welcome Centers, especially proposed closings.
Whereas, Michigan's Welcome Centers are important elements of our state's efforts to encourage tourism. These centers are often the first point of contact for visitors and the best way for them to learn of attractions and treasures in our state; and
Whereas, Travel Michigan recently received a major report and assessment of the state's Welcome Centers. This analysis will be used to make decisions in the near future to enhance the effectiveness of these resources. The report discussed a host of issues, including privatization, corporate sponsorship, staffing level needs, the wide disparity of the visitor base among the centers, and cost-benefits of the locations. The implementation of the various recommendations will be a notable component of Michigan's efforts in tourism; and
Whereas, The thirteen Welcome Centers across our state host approximately 10 million visitors each year. This is clearly a program with significant economic influence on our state. The influence not only includes direct spending that may be traced to the centers, but also the image our state projects. With this impact, it is appropriate to request prior notification of major changes and possible closings of centers. This can serve to generate maximum support for the decisions that are made; now, therefore, be it
