CONTENT

The bill would amend Public Act 173 of 1953, which regulates the feeding of garbage to swine and provides for the licensure of persons who feed garbage to swine, to eliminate the licensing provisions of the Act.

Currently, under the Act, a person is prohibited from feeding garbage to swine without obtaining a license, each year, from the Department of Agriculture. The Act prescribes the procedures for obtaining a license and requires each applicant to pay a $5 fee. A license can be revoked for failure or refusal to operate under the provisions of the Act or the rules and regulations of the Department. The Act provides that no person who is required to be licensed, and who has not applied for a license, is eligible to receive payments for the destruction of swine pursuant to any eradication program. The bill would repeal all of these provisions.

Provisions in the Act that regulate the feeding of garbage to swine, provide penalties for violations, and prescribe the powers and duties of the Department, would remain.
