MICHIGAN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY ACT

Act 142 of 2001

AN ACT to consolidate prior acts naming certain Michigan highways; to provide for the naming of certain highways; to prescribe certain duties of the state transportation department; and to repeal acts and parts of acts and certain resolutions.

The People of the State of Michigan enact:


250.1001 Short title.

Sec. 1.

     This act shall be known and may be cited as the "Michigan memorial highway act".

250.1002 Markers; erection and maintenance; private contributions.

Sec. 2.

     The state transportation department shall only provide for the erection and maintenance of suitable markers at the approach of any of the highways described in this act when sufficient private contributions are received to pay the cost of erecting and maintaining those markers.

250.1003 “Carleton Road.”

Sec. 3.

     The portion of highways US-223 beginning at the intersection with US-23, M-34, and M-99 extending northwest through Monroe, Lenawee, Hillsdale, and Calhoun counties to the city of Homer shall be known as "Carleton Road".

250.1003a "Corpsman Aaron D. Ullom Memorial Bridge."

Sec. 3a.

    The bridge on highway US-10 over Eastman Avenue in the city of Midland shall be known as the "Corpsman Aaron D. Ullom Memorial Bridge".

250.1003b "PFC Nicholas H. Blodgett Memorial Highway"; "CPL Ross A. Smith Memorial Highway"; "SPC Eric T. Burri Memorial Highway."

Sec. 3b.

    (1) The portion of highway US-131 in the city of Wyoming between exits 80 and 81 shall be known as the "PFC Nicholas H. Blodgett Memorial Highway".
    (2) The portion of highway US-131 in the city of Wyoming between exits 79 and 80 shall be known as the "CPL Ross A. Smith Memorial Highway".
    (3) The portion of highway US-131 in the city of Wyoming between exits 78 and 79 shall be known as the "SPC Eric T. Burri Memorial Highway".

250.1004 “Roberts-Linton Highway” and “Veterans of World War I Memorial Highway.”

Sec. 4.

     The portion of highway I-75 and US-23 beginning in the city of Saginaw and extending north to the city of Bay City shall be known as the "Roberts-Linton Highway" and as the "Veterans of World War I Memorial Highway".

250.1004a "Tpr. Steven B. Devries Memorial Highway."

Sec. 4a.

    The portion of highway US-12 in Berrien County beginning at the intersection of US-12 and highway M-60 and continuing west to the intersection of highway US-12 and highway US-31 shall be known as the "Tpr. Steven B. Devries Memorial Highway".

250.1004b "Trooper Larry Forreider Memorial Highway."

Sec. 4b.

    The portion of highway US-23 in Alpena County beginning at the intersection with Hamilton Road and extending north to the border between Alpena and Presque Isle Counties shall be known as the "Trooper Larry Forreider Memorial Highway".

Sec. 4c.

    The portion of highway US-127 beginning at exit 56 in Ingham County and extending south to the Jackson County line shall be known as the "Trooper Craig A. Scott Memorial Highway".

250.1005 “Frank D. Fitzgerald Memorial Highway.”

Sec. 5.

     The portion of highway M-43 beginning in the city of East Lansing and extending west to the city of Grand Ledge shall be known as the "Frank D. Fitzgerald Memorial Highway".

Sec. 5a.

    The portion of highway Business Route I-96 within the city limits of the city of Lansing shall be known as the "Lansing Firefighter Dennis E. Rodeman Memorial Highway".

250.1005a[1] "Veterans Memorial Highway."

Sec. 5a.

    The portion of highway M-18 in Gladwin County between the northern city limit of the city of Beaverton and the southern city limit of the city of Gladwin shall be known as the "Veterans Memorial Highway".

Sec. 6.

     Highway M-53 extending from the city of Detroit north to M-25 in Huron county shall be known as the "Earle Memorial Highway".

Sec. 6a.

    The portion of Highway US-2 that is within the city limits of the city of Norway in Dickinson County shall be known as the "Kenneth J. Moraska Memorial Highway".

250.1006b "Trooper Byron J. Erickson Memorial Highway."

Sec. 6b.

    The portion of highway M-52 beginning at the intersection with Curtis Road in the city of Adrian and extending north to the intersection with highway M-50 shall be known as the "Trooper Byron J. Erickson Memorial Highway".

Sec. 7.

     The portion of highway US-23 beginning at the border between Michigan and Ohio in Monroe county and extending north to the city of Mackinaw City shall be known as the "United Spanish War Veterans' Memorial Highway".

Sec. 7a.

    The portion of highway US-12 within the city limits of the city of Jonesville shall be known as the "James Bondsteel Memorial Highway".

Sec. 8.

     The portion of US-2 beginning in St. Ignace and extending west to Gladstone, the portion of M-35 beginning in Gladstone and extending south to Wells, the portion of US-2 and M-41 beginning at Wells and extending west to Hermansville, the portion of US-2 beginning at Hermansville and extending west to Iron Mountain, the portion of M-95 beginning at Iron Mountain and extending north to Sagola, the portion of M-69 beginning at Sagola and extending west to Crystal Falls, and the portion of US-2 beginning in Crystal Falls and extending west to Ironwood shall be known as the "United Spanish War Veterans' Memorial Highway".

Sec. 8a.

    The portion of highway I-75 in Genesee County shall be known as the "John Wayne "Dusty" Marcum Memorial Highway".

Sec. 8b.

    The portion of highway US-2 and highway US-41 beginning at the eastern limit of Hyde and extending west to the western limit of Bark River shall be known as the "Darryl M. Rantanen Memorial Highway".

Sec. 8c.

    (1) The portion of highway M-35 in Forsyth Township beginning at the northern township limit of Turin Township extending northwest to the southern township limit of Richmond Township shall be known as the "Ben Lauren and Don Riling Memorial Highway".
    (2) The bridge on highway US-2 over the Escanaba River in Delta County shall be known as the "Senator Tom Casperson Memorial Bridge".
    (3) The portion of highway US-24 in Wayne County beginning at the intersection with M-153 and extending north to the intersection with Warren Avenue shall be known as the "Julie Plawecki Memorial Highway".

Sec. 9.

     The portion of highway M-95 beginning at the border between Michigan and Wisconsin in Dickinson county and extending north to Champion in Marquette county shall be known as the "Leif Erikson Memorial Highway".

Sec. 9a.

    The portion of highway Business Route 127 in Clinton County beginning at the intersection of Business Route 127 and West Walker Road and continuing south to East Townsend Road shall be known as the "PFC Andrew H. Nelson Memorial Highway".

Sec. 9b.

    Business Route 127 in Clare County shall be known as the "SPC Robert Friese Memorial Highway".

     Highway M-107 in Ontonagon county shall be known as the "107th Engineer Memorial Road".

Sec. 10a.

    The portion of highway M-52 in Stockbridge Township in Ingham County that extends from the southern intersection of highway M-52 and highway M-106 to the intersection of highway M-52 and highway M-36 shall be known as the "Deputy Grant Whitaker Memorial Highway".

Sec. 10a.

    The portion of highway M-10 in Wayne County between highway I-94 and Grand River Avenue shall be known as the "Sergeant Collin Rose Memorial Highway".

    The portion of highway US-31 beginning at the border between Michigan and Indiana in Berrien County and extending to the Straits of Mackinac at the county line of Emmet and Cheboygan Counties, excluding the portion of highway US-31 beginning at the intersection with Robbins Road in the city of Grand Haven and continuing north to the intersection with Jackson Street, and excluding the portion of highway US-31 in Oceana County beginning at the W. Shelby Road exit 144 and continuing north to the Hart Polk Road exit 149, shall be known as the "Blue Star Memorial Highway".

    The ramp from westbound highway I-696 to southbound highway I-275 in the city of Farmington Hills shall be known as the "Trooper Vicki Moreau DeVries Memorial Highway".

Sec. 14.

    The part of highway US-31 beginning at the county line of Muskegon and Oceana Counties and extending north to the county line of Mason and Manistee Counties, excluding the portion of highway US-31 in Oceana County beginning at the W. Shelby Road exit 144 and continuing north to the Hart Polk Road exit 149, shall be known as the "Pere Marquette Memorial Highway".

     The portion of highway US-2 and highway US-41 and highway M-35 beginning at the northern city limit of Escanaba and extending north 1-1/10 miles to the junction of County Road No. 426, also known as the extension of Sheridan avenue, shall be known as the "AmVets Memorial Drive".

Sec. 16b.

    The portion of the Red Arrow Highway in Berrien County beginning at the intersection with Glenlord Road and extending north to the intersection with Hilltop Road shall be known as the "Trooper Robert J. Mihalik Memorial Highway".

Sec. 17.

    (1) The portion of highway M-66 beginning at the intersection with highway M-78 in Calhoun county and extending north to the intersection with highway US-131 in Kalkaska county shall be known as the "Green Arrow Route".
    (2) The portion of highway US-131 beginning at the intersection with highway M-66 and extending north to the intersection with highway US-31 and the portion of highway US-31 beginning at the intersection with highway US-131 and extending north to the straits of Mackinac shall be known as the "Green Arrow Route-Mackinac Trail".

Sec. 17a.

Sec. 20.

    The portion of highway M-15 within the village of Ortonville shall be known as the "Purple Heart Trail".

Sec. 21.

     The portion of highway I-475 that is in Genesee county shall be known as the "David Dunbar Buick Freeway" and "The UAW Freeway".

Sec. 21a.

    The portion of highway M-44 in Kent County beginning at the intersection of highway M-44 and Rogue River Road and extending northeast to the intersection of highway M-44 and Belding Road shall be known as the "Michigan State Trooper Timothy O'Neill Memorial Highway".

Sec. 21b.

Sec. 22.

     The portion of highway I-69 beginning at the Shiawassee-Genesee county line and extending east to the Genesee-Lapeer county line shall be known as the "Louis Chevrolet Freeway".

Sec. 23.

     Highway I-696 in Oakland and Macomb counties shall be known as the "Walter P. Reuther Highway".

250.1023a "Mitchel A. Kiefer Foundation for Distracted Driver Awareness Highway."

Sec. 23a.

    The portion of highway I-96 beginning at mile marker 122 and extending west to mile marker 118 shall be known as the "Mitchel A. Kiefer Foundation for Distracted Driver Awareness Highway".

    The portion of highway M-10 in the city of Detroit beginning at the intersection with Livernois Avenue and extending south to the intersection with highway I-94 shall be known as the "Aretha L. Franklin Memorial Highway".

Sec. 1084.

    The portion of highway M-15 beginning at the intersection of M-15 and Cass Avenue Road in Portsmouth Charter Township and extending north to the intersection of M-15 and Ridge Road in the city of Bay City shall be known as the "Army Sergeant First Class Michael Cathcart Memorial Highway".
