INFANT SAFE SLEEP RULES

SUMMARY:

House Bill 4082 would amend 1973 PA 116, the child care licensing act, to require licensed child care entities to provide rules regarding safe sleep to the parents of children in their care who are younger than one year old.

Specifically, under the bill:

·         Beginning on the bill’s effective date, each child care center, group child care home, and family child care home, upon enrollment of a child under one year of age into its care, would have to provide the parent of that child with a copy of the rules regarding infant safe sleep that have been promulgated by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) under the act.[1]

·         No later than 90 days after the bill’s effective date, each child care center, group child care home, and family child care home would have to provide a copy of those rules to the parent of each child in its care who is under one year of age.

The bill would take effect 90 days after being enacted.

House Bill 4082 would have no fiscal impact on state or local government.
